This is my best work so far, I think. It's got atmosphere (no pun intended), substance, and detail!!!

Been working on it forever!!! Sketched it back after ~Amakudari did her South Africa pic... so it's been sitting around for a while. Over a year, in fact. It's probably better that I didn't finish it then, because I've learned so much in the interrum!

The map I used is by a man named Petrus Plancius and comes from way before copyright, I'm sure (1594). It can be found here, along with plenty of hi-rez scans for the adventurer in you. I like the old maps with the words all over them in old-school handwriting I can only pretend to understand. Why don't we have handwriting classes anymore? That would be sweet. Not to mention, I could probably read more poeple's handwriting...

Details Shot in my scraps.

So many hours... Most of them just working on the basics: coloring the clothes, skin, hair... The five hours I worked on it today covered the accessories, brush, and all aspects of the background. I almost missed dinner because I was so into finishing this! But it was worth it.

It does have a lot of depth! What's interesting is the eyes are so much bigger than you usually draw, and the mouth is a lot wider! I like her clothes, but I think the best part is the paintbrush and the way it's splashing into the ocean!
LOL at the one sock. It also looks different because you used so many earth tones and pastels, which is different from your usual stuff.

How Awesome! I love the stars in the background! They're not too big, not too small -- and just detailed enough! :w00t:

Lol, something like that. ;p

I had to start from basically scratch. New research, new arguments --- half a semester's work in about 3.5 days. :faint: Was not fun.
